Overview
My dear friend Julie’s world was shattered when her husband suddenly died of a heart attack. At the time of Jim’s death, he and Julie lived in a gorgeous California house, with a luxurious pool and more square footage than they needed. Suddenly responsible for this mortgage and
all of their expenses, Julie was losing sleep and worrying deeply about her retirement. She knew she would have to invest aggressively in order to cover her basic expenses and understood the unpredictable and unforgiving nature of the stock market. It was too much uncertainty for her to stomach.
It was clear, she needed a plan that would allow her to enjoy life and not worry about her investments.
Result After Working With Us
Julie made the brave choice to reduce her living expenses so that she could be comfortable within her financial means. She decided to leave the expensive California lifestyle and
trade it in for a simpler life in Tennessee. Julie now lives in
a new custom home on a golf course. Despite having cut
her living expenses by over 60%, Julie is living with more
joy than ever, golfing, traveling and saving money.
How You Can Do It Too
Once you have created an accurate financial picture and
have built a solid Floor Income, your retirement could
very well be saved from catastrophe. Both Evelyn and Julie
understood this and were able to go on and live vibrant
lives. They not only met their basic needs, but were able to
thrive, have fun and experience true prosperity.
True prosperity lies in what I refer to as Aspirational
Income. This is the money that allows you to have
those adventures, be playful, enjoy hobbies, travel, be
philanthropic and create legacy. Your Aspirational Income
will be at the root of your Retirement Manifesto.
Your Retirement Manifesto is the fun part. It’s the part
where you get to sit back and dream about what you want
your life to look like. We know happiness is not about
money. Money can afford us comfort and help us sleep
better at night, but it’s not what gives us purpose or makes
us feel fulfilled. So, the question becomes: what makes
you happy?
Do you want to spend your winters in Hawaii? Go on an
African safari? Have an annual family gathering?
What’s on your bucket list? Learn to play an instrument?
Ride a motorcycle? Jump out of an airplane? Visit all the
continents? Dream big! But, don’t forget to think about
the fine print as well.
Even more important than the events that happen on
occasion, take a moment to think about your daily life.
What would you like it to look like? Do you want to live
somewhere with an ocean view? Care to buy a small farm
and plant garlic? Do you wish to hike in the mountains
each morning? Who would you like to spend your time
with? What would you like to spend your time doing?
Along with your financial plan, you should be creating a
vision of your future life that accounts for your physical,
spiritual and emotional health as well. Your Retirement
Manifesto serves as a road map to a great, holistic life. It
gives you a purpose to lean on and a plan to follow.
